Yes, Obama guaranteed $8 billion (in loans, not grants) to help kickstart the building process.

I had not heard about the thorium reactors. That tidbit certainly does give fission energy a longer lifespan as useful energy source. Probably good news. (Although I'd prefer sustainable energy.)
