a late start for gardening

This might be the latest that I've ever started seeds in flats. I didn't do it last weekend, because the weather was still below freezing even during the day. I have too many indoor plants that need sunlight. I don't have any free sunlit space to put flats during daytime except my unheated front patio, so it needs to be just a little bit warmer.

The weather was 2 or 3 degrees above freezing when I took this photo then started planting. The 10-day forecast includes no more freezing, not even during night. A few days from now, the forecast is for temperatures above 21C/70F. If that happens, then all of the remaining snow will disappear fast. In 2 more weekends, I might even be able to dig in the dirt.

By the time these seeds put on their first true leaves, the weather might already be warm enough for me to put them into the ground. Sure, we're still a month away from reliable last-frost date here. Let me have my optimism, okay? :) I refuse to acknowledge the possibility of second winter.
