air conditioning alternative

I'm holding on to a discount offer from my gas utility company. It offers $1000 off for installation of a Daikin Ductless unit in my home. It's good until May 15th. I have that long to at least get a job offer (even if not yet a paycheck), so I know that I'm staying in my house.

These units are well designed for use in very old houses like mine (built in 1909) which have bad duct systems because they were built before central air management was a planned practice that happened. Coincidentally, the first home A/C unit in the world was installed right here in Minneapolis in 1914! Each unit appears to cost between US$1000-2000, so that discount would be nice. I would need 3 of them, each bedroom and the living room. What's even better is that they handle both cooling and heating needs because they are based on heat pump technology needing electricity instead of gas. They would be an excellent addition to my home, making replacement of these old rotted-out double-hung window frames with more new casement windows the next thing on the list of repairs needed here. Because I live in a cold zone, I would need to "size up" the BTU requirements for each room.

My emotions are in turmoil. I hope today's 2nd interview goes well, and I finally get a remote job offer. This position is for a university (in another state), so that's a plus.
