an update from the warzone
I called 911 again last week, for a shooting like this one just one long block away from my house. I've heard plenty of other gunshots, but they were outside my self-imposed 2-block radius for reporting the nearby threats. Like this automated gunfire about 7 blocks away (as the crow flies), with 3 victims showing up at the local hospital.
I've told you before about the corner where I buy groceries at Cub. It's the place where reporters were shot at while trying to do a news story about the violence. It's another place that got ransacked during the riots, far from George Floyd Square in south Minneapolis. Well, it's in the news again because of the many shootings there.
I told you before that our current mayor smells like corruption, and some people are already saying "I told you so" to the strong mayor change that won approval last year. There's a big scandal that seems to slowly creep closer to the mayor himself, with his senior aid leaving the job due to the scandal.
EDIT 4pm: Oh, look, CNN released a long write-up today about north Minneapolis and reminded everyone when we were called Murderapolis. It's still bad here now in my part of the city, just like it was when I first moved here. I've used this topic tag since 2016, and I've listened to gunshots since day 1. Nothing has significantly changed here. The political status quo always wins. Don't blame "Defund the Police" for this trouble, because we never succeeded at that new priority for spending.

- Officials are finally starting to investigate the 2 businesses (a gas station and a liquor store) "hosting" these problems
- The mayor launched "Operation Endeavor", full of buzzwords but no details, just in time to take credit for the natural cyclic reduction in crime that we can expect with cold weather.
- People scattering like ants after gunfire at a homecoming football game in a city bordering south Minneapolis, with 2 people injured, prompting cancellation of the homecoming dance.
- Whatever this is at "the spoon" near downtown Minneapolis.
- Neo-nazis and police at a library "Drag Story Hour" in St. Paul. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
