I misunderstood #2 the first time I read this. Now I get what you mean, and I like the idea.

But even though I've chosen "they" as one of my pronouns, I still think it would be better to have a gender-neutral pronoun that isn't ambiguous in terms of one vs multiple people, and to have that used for #1.
