Wait, wait... adjustment to the earlier correction.

I'm certain that in my case it is HHV infection rather than this "Sutton's Disease". Two boyfriends ago, I was dating a guy with AIDS. At one point when I had an outbreak (and so we kept our distance for a while) he gave me a few of his pills intended to subdue herpetic infection. I know it started with the letter 'V', and I think it was Valtrex.

Wonder drug! Fast, fast relief from the canker sore that I had never experienced before. Since the sore responded to an antiherpetic drug, I figure that's a good sign that the illness in me (and my family line, by extension) is herpetic.
