various updates from Minneapolis

Day 5: Today's rapid test nasal swab shows negative again for COVID-19.  Apparently day 5 is the typical date for symptoms (if you have any) to start, but it stretches as far as 14 days.

I have an appointment for my flu shot next Monday.

I have an "appointment" (more of an open intake period) to talk to lawyers on Tuesday.

Back in 2018, the US Court Of Appeals for the 9th Circuit ruled that it's unconstitutional under the 8th Amendment (prohibiting cruel and unusual punishments) to prohibit sleeping outside when there are no housed alternatives.  Then in 2019, the US Supreme Court refused to hear a challenge on this decision, letting it stand.  Still, though, I think the ruling applies only to the 9th Circuit, covering western U.S. states.  I'm sure the ACLU and others are working to get similar decisions here.  When that happens, then what they did last week (where I got arrested) will be illegal for my local government to perform.  It's already illegal if it happens within the 9th Circuit.  It is still morally wrong, of course, regardless of the law.

The homeless and activists setup camp outside Minneapolis City Hall this week (where the Occupy camp renamed the site to the People's Plaza), to protest the evictions.  I wasn't there, but I watched on Twitter.  Police came, they evicted people again, even during the city council meeting on homeless evictions.  It looks like people are back this morning though.

I was sorry to miss the Corsi-Rosenthal workshop that was scheduled yesterday at the protest camp, but they have another one scheduled in two weeks.
