that wasn't terrible

That might have been the mildest July 4th since I've lived here.

Normally, even during the daytime, it's just constant fireworks. As in, you can't count to 10 during daylight hours (or 3 during night hours) without hearing another kaboom. Instead, I often went more than an hour before hearing anything during the day. Fireworks didn't really begin until dusk.

After dusk, they went on past midnight as usual. It was 3:40am when the cat finally came to bed seeking comfort. I've been awake since then. Today will be a caffeine day for work.

Here in ABQ is was SO bad that smoke covered the city in places. Literally sounded like a war zone. It was awful. Almost everyone said it was the worst they ever remembered.

It was eerily quiet here during the day too. I didn't hear any until around 7:40pm. After it got dark, there were a lot.

We have a new ordinance that prohibits fireworks after 10pm except on July 4 and New Year's (on those days it is allowed til 1am). But that doesn't explain why it was quieter during the daytime, and I heard very few on the prior days too - I'd expected there to be a lot over the weekend already.
