Anytime Fitness?

Have any locals joined Anytime Fitness?  What's the monthly price?  I checked their website, but apparently they don't quote prices because of the usual advertisement/deal/bargain focus that I dislike so much in every gym.  Still, there's one of these places just a few blocks away, so I'd like to at least consider it.  What do you pay each month?

Looks like you can try them out free for a week: http://www.anytimefitness.com/en-us/clubs/pass/276

I have a Bally's membership and pay $100 a year, but that's low because I joined a long time ago and my contract with them keeps them from raising rates more than a certain percentage a year. And then I usually pay for 3 years at a time. They also have a 7-day pass thing going on: http://www.ballyfitness.com/get-started/guest-pass/free-guest-pass.aspx

Months ago I looked into some gym memberships, and my experience was that they all cost about the same. I expect this is true in any given area. So, IMO, you can just call any gym and check their rates and assume any other gym will be about the same.

The real differentiators between gyms, IME, are things like showers, pools, classes, etc.

Just FYI, the local Anytime offered:
  • 10 months - $300
  • 6 months - $200
  • Month-to-month - $40
Plus, a $50 joining fee, and $20 for your access key-card.

Why a gym and not just some home equipment? You can usually get home exercise equipment for pennies on the dollar in the classifieds, on Craig's List, etc.

LA Fitness is $40/month. They really wanted me back after I canceled, so I'm in at $20/month, so some negotiation is clearly possible.
