weather in perspective

mellowtiggerWeather.com says it's currently -13F (-24F windchill) here in Minnesota this morning. That's cold enough to hurt exposed skin, make my eyes water, and freeze the hairs inside my nose (feeling all prickly) if I inhale quickly. I doubt that I'd survive 24 hours outdoors here with any of the equipment that I currently own. Pretty darned cold. I've experienced temperatures here that were down to -35F air temperature. That's cold enough to make snow sound very squeaky (rather than crunchy) underfoot and freeze nose hairs into sharp spikes even with shallow breathing.

the average recorded temperature on Mars is -63� C (-81� F) with a maximum temperature of 20� C (68� F) and a minimum of -140� C (-220� F).It fascinates me to think that on a warm day on Mars, it would be possible to wander around on the surface with just a face mask for oxygen. (Though I'm uncertain what the very low air pressure would feel like.) Nicer than here in Minnesota on a cold day.
