About 20 years ago anarchists were a big thing here in Portland still are to a certain extent, but at the time they had a big protest in downtown which the chief of police who at the time was a rather reactionary twit, went off all over the local press about organized anarchist conspiracies. He didn't last long after that. Too much snickering by the general population. Plus the fact that in his effort to stop the non existant riot he claimed he was responding to, he arrested everyone who was on the streets in a 10 block area. This included people going and comeing from work, people shopping, news reporters, local politicians. Not a good thing.
