blood test results from February
2010-Mar-02, Tuesday 10:34 amI've had these results for a while, but I guess I should get them recorded somewhere that I can find them later if needed. These are the tests that they had to draw 8 vials of blood for examination.
IANAN (i am not a neurologist), but here's my interpretation anyway:
metals: normal. Both Zinc and Copper are within reference ranges, although they are both on the low end of normal.
Thyroid function: normal. Expected, but still amusing. I've had my thyroid tested more times than I can remember. I had it tested even back when I was a teenager. I wonder what condition always looks like thryoid malfunction but isn't?
Lyme disease: negative. The western blot tests for Borrelia burgdorferi antibodies came back negative. That's good news. (Did you know that B. burgdorferi has replaced all of its Iron-containing enzymes with Manganese instead? Cool.)
Celiac disease: negative. The tests for gliadin antibody response were normal. I do not, apparently, have a gluten sensitivity. That's surprising news to me, actually. I do not have gluten-sensitive neuropathy.
Sjogren's syndrome: negative? They used weird numbers for posting their lab results. It seems to be just binary instead of units AU/mL. The more-specific SSB test was negative. That's good news. The less-specific SSA test, however, seems to say that there is nevertheless some kind of autoimmune dysfunction. Could be Sjogren's, could be sclerosis, could be Lupus, could be something else.
*ignorant shrug* Two more weeks until I meet with the neurologist again. I'm not sure if we have enough information yet to make any conclusive diagnosis. I'm hoping that zhey doesn't order a spinal tap to test for sclerosis. *shudder*

Date: 2010-Mar-03, Wednesday 12:07 am (UTC)I thought that sclerosis was out of the picture after my brain MRI, but the blood test result seems to put it back into play again (if I'm reading it correctly). If the neurologist mentions a lumbar puncture, I will definitely speak out about my personal "issues" with the procedure. Hopefully, it won't come to that.
