2008-Jan-27, Sunday 12:59 pmI went to the Bear Bar Night last night and spoke with Al. He went to that Saturday mandatory meeting, and everyone managed to keep their jobs. Management just wanted to discuss the severe slowdown in business. Apparently Al is still suspicious that they may have layoffs in the future. His other job is the same way, very slow workload. He commented that "the recession we're not having" is getting really bad.
I noticed last weekend that the local PetsMart had a huge sign up on their building to announce, "We're Staying!" We're having another heatwave in Minnesota, and the weather today is above freezing, so I decided to walk the 1-2 miles out to the store to take a photo of the sign and post it here. I got there, though, and the sign was gone. I don't know if a) they're back to leaving at the end of the month, or b) they decided the sign was counter-productive to bringing in customers.
So I walked back home. As I turned the corner onto my block, there was a guy dropping "Open House" signs at the corner, pointing the way down past the house where I rent.
I've expanded my jobhunt to include other states now. I've applied for a government job out in California and a university job out in Alaska. I don't want to move, but I'll go anywhere that I can find work.
