a good night
2008-Aug-01, Friday 11:46 pmI wish these times were a LOT more common.
I handed off the pager to the other guy at work around 4pm, and I decided about then that I wanted beer later. I left work a few minutes early, about 4:50pm. I got home, changed clothes, checked a few webpages, and then headed out to the bus stop.
I got downtown, briefly felt like an idiot once (asking the busdriver after I pulled the cord, "Is this a stop?") and twice (asking the bartender, "I can't remember the name, but it's one of the darker beers you have?" (it was Killian's)), and got to the back porch of the 19 Bar with my pitcher of beer and my book. I continued reading "Apollo: The Wind, the Spirit, and the God" for a glass or two until the distraction. I heard someone say the phrase "the role of religion". Ding! What?
I picked up my book and my beer glass and then walked to another table to pardon myself into the conversation. I spent the next few hours in conversation with various people (one in particular (with voice that I like and longhair that I also like, although sadly he's involved and therefore unapproachable (by my rules))). It was a very good evening. Various people joined and departed the conversation, both male and female, and it was interesting and educational.
Religion and politics and personal histories. I liked it. For hours. I left home around 5:30pm and got home around 11:30pm. The stuff in between was nice. A very unusual and pleasant social experience.
I very much like the 19 Bar, regardless of how other people diss it. I've had several great conversations there. Tonight was good.
