Minneapolis photo safari 2019
2019-Nov-15, Friday 10:24 amLast Friday, I joined Outwoods for a photo safari in the Minneapolis skyway. On my way to the event, I walked past a Picturing Peace Minneapolis advertisement. Good project, and there are some nice photos on their page. But that was a warm weather project. Our event was indoors on the skyway system (full map here), because it was already below freezing outside.
Not everyone showed up at start time, and we were cold standing in the parking lot waiting, so we detoured to a nearby gay bar for a few drinks first. I don't often get proof of me being actually social, but here's a good image of me preparing to take the photo on the right as evidence of our event.

Judging from timestamps on my photos, we wandered downtown and took photos from about 4:30 to 5:30 before turning around and heading back. The sky went from well lit to very dark during that time. My favorite photos are these two. They are both taken within skyway corridors. One is just a lonely, haunted passage with stark lighting down the center. The other is evidence that we are walking on the 2nd floor outside actual buildings, even with former windows bricked in against peering pedestrians.

One of my early snapshots included an electric vehicle charging station on the outside parking ramp (by the snack machine indoors). The other was an advertisement for bail bond near the downtown prison facility.

There were lots of interesting angles, curves, and reflections everywhere.

It's weird how conspicuous economic areas (banks and high-end stores) needed to modify their perception by adding flags. There's probably a sociology paper in that somewhere. But the image of that skyline through the windows and the indoor waterfall is quite nice.

Not bad stuff from just my old cellphone.
Finally, a post without so much text to read.
