mellowtigger: (gardening)
asparagus growing in front yard 2020 April 03 SundayI have asparagus!  Technically, I've had asparagus for several years already, but this year is the first year that it's grown thick enough to harvest.  Too bad that it's already twice as tall as it should be for harvesting.  It's probably quite woody by now, instead of tender.  I wish I'd noticed it sooner.

But that's okay.  I'm glad that those seeds are finally established well enough to product large stalks.  They've done much better than my carrots, which once again failed to survive the winter.  I always have to buy new seeds for carrots.

I did some gardening today, digging up some of the flowers that are taking over part of my front yard.  I wanted more room for thornless dwarf raspberry, more strawberry, and maybe more asparagus.  I previously asked my neighbors (the old ones, not the noisy ones) if it was okay for me to transplant to an area by their house.  The man said yes, so I did that today.

I dug out some of his dandelions and replaced them with these bigger flowers that should help to shade any other invasives.  He thanked me by giving me an N95 respirator.  :)

I guess that's the new store of value for wealth these days: pandemic masks.
