2020-Jun-16, Tuesday 10:21 amGood news first?
I took this week off of work as a staycation, some time to work on long overdue gardening. I've made some success toward that goal, but I still have a long way to go. I'll take photos when I'm done. The front yard is looking nice. I have just 48 more pavers to lay for a path around the front garden, so neighbor kids don't have to tromp through plants to find strawberries.
The strawberries and raspberries have formed nicely. I expect to enjoy some fruit soon. Even one of the juneberries has fruit this year! I look forward to finally tasting one. They're supposed to be like blueberries but without the finicky soil requirement.
I have 3 roses that are all putting on blooms. It's hard to find any but basic red roses that endure the cold weather this far north. The Violet's Pride lavender bush rose survived 2 winters and smells wonderful. The Crown Princess yellow climbing roses have only survived 1 winter so far, and it's too early to tell what they smell like. But soon.

Bad news next.
I was awake until nearly midnight for fireworks. Then woken again around 3am due to more detonations. Somebody likes the "boom" fireworks more than the colorful blooming kind. I finally woke up around 10am normally. I saw the alert that SWAT was called about 30 minutes ago nearby. At least I slept through the 7am gunshots 61 meters / "200 feet away", according to the Citizen app.
This is life in the #WarzoneInMinneapolis. Neighbors tell me they see both rabbits and raccoons visiting my yard. There is so much beauty to be found here. Old houses and bike trails (that I never ride any more due to the widespread violence (this incident was about 2 blocks away, but there are a lot more of them)). You just have to survive the warzone to find the little things that make life worth living.
