misc short updates

We're due for subzero (Fahrenheit, meaning below -18C in the civilized world) air temperatures on Sunday.  February is our coldest month in Minnesota, and we've been short on cold days this winter.  I haven't seen the rabbit again, although I've pondered buying some food for it and leaving it outside.  I want it to survive the winter okay.

There was an incident at the crack house next door last week.  I didn't pay enough attention to see if they wheeled a corpse out to the ambulance.  The fire truck arrived first and was there half an hour.  The ambulance and police stayed longer.  I'm guessing a drug overdose, but I don't know how bad it got.

I've been working longer days recently.  Big project at work.  A project that was mismanaged from world headquarters, in my opinion, so I'm officially job hunting.  I finally turned in my first application this week and gave references from coworkers that I had already spoken to.  I dislike job hunting.  I'll keep it up, though, until I'm convinced that world headquarters actually has a clue what to do with technology automation.  Don't worry.  My boss knows I'm looking elsewhere and why.  Headquarters is hiring a Technology Architect who should be here in a few weeks.  Their ability to overcome bureaucratic inertia may determine whether I stay or not.

It's been months since I can easily get ice cubes from a tray in the freezer.  I have to lift the tray out, wrestle with it near my chest for a while, then reach back in with my good arm to turn over the tray to see if any ice cubes come out.  I think I may just look online for some kind of tiny, 1-person ice cube maker that I could put on the kitchen near the sink and hook it up to the tap water.

My shoulder hurts.  Worse than before, I think, due to all of the extra attention I've given it recently with the new exercises.  My range of motion is still improving, which is good.  Any time I use muscles in just a certain way, though, it causes intense pain.  I'm minding my own business, somehow twitch a minor muscle wrong, and then I'm howling at the air until my cat steps up to ask what's wrong with me.  It's always a persistent very low pain, even sitting still, and of no great consequence.  Until I barely twitch in just the right way, then suddenly it's the feeling of muscles tearing as my arm gets ripped from my shoulder socket... that kind of pain.  Knowing that my leg injury long ago produced a dangerous blood clot, I'm making sure to take my low dose aspirins regularly this time, just as a preventative measure.

I've done a better job than usual lately trying to stay away from the news.  I can't spend all my time playing computer games with my arm like this, so I've been catching up on shows on HBO Max while I'm subscribed.
