Somebody died half a block away from my house yesterday after being shot around 4pm on Sunday. That should be the part that distresses me, but it takes 2nd place to the fact that nobody called for help. It was an automated ShotSpotter warning that brought police to the scene.

Officers were called to the 2600 block of Logan Avenue North just before 4 p.m. Sunday after the department’s ShotSpotter system detected gunfire in the area. They arrived to find an injured man lying on the ground outside. He was taken to North Memorial Health hospital, where he later died.

I admit that I didn't hear (or notice) the gunfire either. Hard to tell amongst the noise of rampant fireworks. I do remember the rush of various sirens nearby.

At least the fireworks weren't as bad as previous years.  I've mentioned before that the detonations are terrible and there are hours in sequence when I cannot count to 5 without fireworks interrupting my thoughts.  Apparently the supply chain shortage helped this year, because the fireworks did not begin in earnest until 9pm, rather than lasting most of the day.  It's not encouraging that a city council rep (for the area just north of me) thinks nothing can be done.
