another week gone
2021-Aug-13, Friday 01:52 pmI went to the optometrist yesterday. Like the dentist last week, I hadn't been in many years. Clean bill of health. No glaucoma or other issues. My prescription did change. I don't need to immediately get new lenses. I may go back in a few weeks, depending on my choice about lenses.
I complained to him about my bifocals, explaining that I take them off for reading books. I wondered if I could go without bifocals next time? He says it's a common complaint in nearsighted people like me. People prefer the wider field of vision they get for close activities without glasses. He suggested that I take notice on what I'm doing for common things, like watching the dashboard in my car. Do I need the glasses there or not? (I do, it turns out.) So I might have to stick with bifocals. I haven't made up my mind, though.
My sinuses are still causing problems today. I am rinsing them out daily. Afterwards, I manage to dislodge a big plug of yucky stuff. So airflow is improving, but right now I can feel the sinus headache building on the right side. Something's still tightly clogged in there. I guess I'll have to resort to more antihistamines, even though they turn me into a zombie, barely able to keep my eyes open and function.
I had sinus surgery the first time in 1998, I think? The air around Austin TX was so heavily laden with pollens year round that I kept getting recurring sinus infections monthly. After monthly antibiotics for about 1.5 years, my doctor finally referred me to a sinus surgeon. That surgeon said afterwards that he drilled extra holes in my head to improve drainage. It definitely helps. I had sinus surgery the second time in 2015 with less trauma to remove all of the new polyps that had formed since last time. No new head holes, at least. Both times, surgeons told me after surgery that required more time than they expected that my body likes to produce polyps.. a lot of polyps. At least, these kind never turn cancerous, which is why nobody researches ways to avoid them.
I'm still avoiding outdoors, even though the air quality is much better now in Minneapolis.
I haven't applied to any new jobs this week yet. I should try to do that before the antihistamines kick in. Job hunting is its own fulltime job, and I shouldn't let it linger.
