laundry day

mellowtigger: (we can do it)
Staffed adult ICU beds in my local Minnesota metro region are today at 1.5% availability. I have zero desire to risk exposures at the laundromat, and I was completely out of fresh clothes for work, so I washed laundry in my bathtub again this morning.

Like last time, I washed the durables in hot water (pictured on left, which seemed to leech a lot of dye from the clothes) and the delicates (pictured on right) in cooler water.  I alternated between swirling them around with my hands and stomping on them with my feet.  After a good wash with soap, I gave each of them another turn in clean water.

I've never in my life had strong hands, and it becomes painfully obviously when I make my lame attempts at wringing water from thick clothes and towels.  Anyone else remember "playing" with an old-timey clothes wringer?  They were much more effective.  It'll take a while before I have dry clothes.  I was going to buy a tiny clothes washer (which is all that will fit in my small place) in 2021, but then I got frustrated at work and didn't want to spend money on things that I might be leaving behind.  I'll write more about that process another day.

Terry trying a clay mask facial 2022 February 11 FridayAfterwards, I ran more water into the tub with some Mr. Bubble and tried to relax a bit.  I even tried a mineral clay mask.  No telling how many years it sat there unopened, but I gave it a try.  I'm pretty sure I didn't get anywhere near enough clay smeared on to actually be useful for siphoning oil out of pores.  Oh, well.  Live and learn.

finger with patch of torn skin 2022 February 11 FridayExcept when neuropathy comes into play.  Too often, I end up with bruises or cuts on my feet that I can't remember putting there.  In the tub just now, I saw a large spot of missing skin on my left thumb, and I couldn't even guess what happened.  No clue.

I remember fighting my dismissive general doctor for a long time about nerve problems before finally getting to see a specialist.  Thank goodness for that woman who filled in for my regular neurologist who was also ready to give up.  She's the one who asked me, "Could you try going gluten-free, just to see what happens?"  She was the only one who actually tried to help... and she nailed it.  The nerve damage stopped getting worse and the muscle spasms disappeared, but the neuropathy is still a lingering problem.

I should be doing more job hunting today, but I'm taking a break from anything else for now.
