my former job
2023-Feb-18, Saturday 05:14 pmI almost posted today as one of my very rare locked/private posts. This news is about someone else's opinion, rather than my own, which warrants some privacy consideration. Cut down to a single paragraph from the original, though, it's really about me, so maybe it's okay to share that part publicly.
I needed some unusual details in one of my job applications for tech support this week, so I contacted some former coworkers. One of them was my counterpart in the Minneapolis office. They gave me the information I needed, and they added some other corporate news. I was deeply disappointed to learn that management has not rehired my position! I thought maybe I'd just somehow missed it from my jobhunt news feeds. We were already too busy at that location, and now they must handle the excessive workload (largest office in the USA outside of corporate headquarters, which has several FTEs for tech support) all alone. That's bad. They'll burn out eventually. :(
They closed the long email with this opinion:
"Sorry, I just realized how much I’m venting : ( Can you tell how much you are missed here??? I’m buried and feel bad for staff having to wait on requests that keep piling up. Others here miss you as well – not just because things aren’t being done as quickly but because of your calm demeanor, smile and laugh and great skill of making people not feel like idiots when they don’t understand something that seems like second nature to us. You are deeply missed here!"
Wow. Seriously, I don't need to worry about my professional references. But I wish things were easier for them, left behind there alone.
