a few more products
2023-Sep-02, Saturday 04:33 pmI'm trying to record (for my benefit and potentially anyone else's) the things I've bought and used this year that proved worth the money. All of this stuff I've mentioned this week are items that I bought during winter using a Christmas gift check from my parents, when I wasn't sure if I'd be staying in this house this year or selling it and moving northward. I wanted only things that I could take with me, just in case.
I decided in winter that I also needed to cut back my carbon emissions even farther. I bought this Duxtop 9600LS/BT-200DZ portable induction cooktop after a discussion in January, then I turned off the gas to my kitchen stove. The induction plate is sitting, precariously balanced, on top of my old stove in my old, tilted house. The induction plate wasn't happy with my former cookware (which was probably leaking PFAS into my diet anyway), so I next bought this 5-piece OrGREENiC ceramic pots and pans set. Both of these products have worked very well for plenty of cooking. The only thing I miss is not having an actual oven, but at least it's kept me away from the expensive frozen gluten-free pizzas at the grocery store.
Around the same time, my old Cannon electric blanket died, the one that I used in winter to wrap myself in a chair in front of the television. I bought it in a Sears store, so you know it was old. That model was no longer available, unfortunately, so I got this StoneCrest heated recliner cover instead. It holds its position on the chair despite my wiggling, which is a great feature. It also gets plenty warm for Minnesota winter when I need it to. I do, however, have 2 complaints. 1) There's little heating at the very tip where I keep my feet under a blanket, resulting in me curling up in the chair to stay warm instead of stretching out. 2) The plug and control button are in an area that's too easy to "mess up" while it's covered under a blanket. I accidentally press it and change the heat level, and I am slowly severely bending the electrical cord which will reduce its lifespan. The button and plug needs to be off to the side on the armrest portion, not there by my thigh. Otherwise, though, a warm and reliable product.
I'll include my new water filter and faucet details later, after I've tried them for a few months. They seem great after initial installation, but I'd rather not recommend until I've used it for a while.
