Yeah, and it hasn't really changed much in the 8.5 years since I've been here. I checked today, though, and The Trace has updated their data to include years through 2023. It looks as bad as I make it sounds with my occasional complaints, unfortunately. The good news is that the 2023 data shows a very clear reduction in gun violence compared to previous years.

Back when I first checked in 2020, I saw only 1 place in Chicago and 1 or 2 places in New York City that might be worse than here. Now, with more data, there might be other contenders. Pulling back the scale to view the entire continental USA at once is certainly appalling. :(
