I received a new hard drive I had ordered, anticipating my purchases in coming months that would allow me to build my new dream machine. My current system is about 6 years old and feeling its age pretty badly, especially at gaming. I'd already found the motherboard that I liked, but I was just waiting for it to come out with a new powersaving feature that I really wanted. No hurry.
So I thought I would try my new hard drive to see if it works with this motherboard, get a head start on copying volumes over to the new equipment. It didn't. My old motherboard couldn't even see the huge terabyte hard drive at bootup. So I took it out and booted up normally.
Then I made my fatal mistake. I decided to shutdown the system and clean out the dust and cat hair that was all over everything. Bad move. Bad, bad move.
Now my system won't boot up. No post error beep. Fans work, hard drives spin up, but nothing happens for sound or video. I've taken everything apart and reseated everything, including video and memory. No go.
I am very bummed out. I was NOT wanting to rush my system buy. But I may end up doing so. I'll decide tomorrow.
Meanwhile, I'm using an old laptop. Judging from file dates, I haven't really used this machine since September 2004. Quite functional for 2D stuff, but I'd never be able to play EQ2 or newer games on it even at lowest settings. I'm using Firefox 0.9.2 at the moment, fer cryin' out loud.
*disappointed sigh*
R.I.P., D865PERL. You served me well.
