a house for sale

mellowtiggerThe family is finally selling their house where the old lady died about a year ago. She's the one who gave me the tag "Rumble In The Jungle" back in 2016. She was the social glue that kept this block functioning. Everything sort of stopped after her death. No more "National Night Out" picnics on her front lawn... or anywhere on our block. The "For Sale" sign went up yesterday, so I had to check the listing.
They want $240K (archive) for it. I've seen similar prices on other houses nearby, and not even the really nice houses.
Somebody thinks my house is worth a lot of money too. As in, 2-3X what I paid for it. My house is over 100 years old, and there's a lot wrong with it. Air flows freely through rotted out window frames upstairs in my bedroom. The basement stairway has only 24" clearance, even after removing the handrail. Any washing machine that I buy will have to be teeny, tiny to fit down there. The whole house tilts, so nothing will stay flat on the floor. Everything rolls northward. These problems don't seem to matter, though. I've been flooded with various letters and postcards from different agencies wanting me to list my house with them.
The agent who sold me this house a few years ago sent me actual, physical books recently. They were an unexpected gift package from a local used book store. That's the kind of business plan that I support. Honestly, it got my attention way more than the other agents did. But I bought this place intending to stay here until I die, hopefully far in the future.
I hope somebody nice buys that house. We still have too many "problem" houses on the block. I vote for longhair hippie treehuggers who host drum circles in their back yard. Or at least somebody really old and boring who doesn't bring any more trouble to the street.
