a headline or few
2020-Aug-14, Friday 11:30 amI mentioned before that SARS-CoV-2 infects heart cells, which should therefore make it a permanent infection. Now, athletes (who tax their hearts more than the rest of us) are showing deadly heart complications after so-called recovery. "Heart muscle cells have ACE-2 receptors, which the coronavirus uses to enter cells. The lungs, Schneider said, are the only place in the body with more of them than the heart." There might not be any such thing as asymptomatic COVID-19, just pre-symptomatic. But, sure, open those schools... for the sake of the children.
I mentioned before that this Republican administration already entered fascist governance mode. Now, Trump personally admits that he is blocking United States Postal Service funding in order to interfere with mail-in voting, which is presumed to favor Democrat voters. This admission makes the action clearly illegal, perhaps in more than one way.
Additionally, those pesky government union workers might defy Trump and try to process that mail anyway, so somebody is removing the sorting machines from the facilities altogether. (I hope some journalists are checking if the machines are moving from Democrat areas to Republican areas.) So be sure to return your mail-in vote as early as possible. Do not let it wait until the last day, because there will surely be court cases to determine if vote counting must end on schedule, even if that means ballots still at the post office will remain uncounted.
I posted earlier my poll of Trump's actions specifically at the inauguration ceremony for the next elected president. I wish I could convince more people to vote in it. Anyway, other people are taking a far more serious look at potential outcomes, and they are not pretty. "All of our scenarios ended in both street-level violence and political impasse." I strongly recommend listening to the 47-minute podcast about those tabletop exercises.
I mentioned before that anti-fascism is a moral responsibility. I learned this week via
furr_a_bruin on MeWe about some citizen heroes from the world's first group of global antifa. For instance, Vidal Sassoon (yes, that one) joined others on the streets with knives and razor blades to fight neo-Nazi thugs, a year after World War II ended. And you really need to see the lead photo of a lady in a dress and coat swinging her purse at neo-Nazis in the 1980s. She even has statues commemorating her resistance!
Be like Wonder Woman. Be antifa.
