Let's see. What's the status of the recent games that I expected to enjoy and that I recommended to select people?

Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising
This game had ideas that were ahead of the times.  Each character got to command its own squad of followers.  A small group of players could then walk onto a battlefield as their own private army.  Plus, being set in Rome, there were togas aplenty.  Sadly, just as they were reaching a phase of beta testing (and I found that they were not yet stable enough to warrant a beta test), everyone got canned and the production house moved money over to Star Trek online.   *roll eyes in dramatic annoyance*  I had even purchased a domain name and was working on creating a fan site for this one. *sigh*

Hellgate: London
This one was made by some of the people involved in creating Diablo II.  I could see some similarities to D2 classes, and there was plenty of fast-paced action between resting points, just like D2 gameplay.  Once the game went live, however, they wanted to charge extra money for stuff that didn't seem worthwhile.  And when I got my character far enough to reach the end-game boss, I could never finish it.  I played the last scenario many times, defeated the last boss, and then the game crashed before my quest would register completion.  Very frustrating.  The production company soon announced the game was dead.  They're keeping the servers open until 2009 Jan 31 as a favor to the fans who paid for the game.

Spore
I really wanted to like this one too.  Then the DRM started crashing my game.  Then I realized how much the game had been dumbed down from initial plans.  Sure enough, the first "expansion" was announced a few short weeks later.  "Creepy and Cute" creature parts.  Okay.  Oh, and they want $20 for it.   Criminy.  Almost half the price of the original game, and it does nothing to address the complaints about the core program.  Yikes.  They're not going to siphon funds out of me for the next 3 years just to create the program that they should have released in the first place.

Given my track record for the last 2 years... readers here shouldn't pay me any attention when I find some new game that grabs my focus. If I like it, it's probably a fatally flawed product.

I even downloaded the Hello Kitty beta and started playing it.  Because, yes, I am that lame.
