30 hours is a loooong time

I'm exhausted. The last 30 hours have been intense in the unpleasant way.
1) *sad*
I picked up the work pager ahead of schedule Tuesday afternoon because I was going to be the only tech worker on staff for Wednesday.
2) *more sad*
I realized that many weeks ago I committed myself to working late on April 13 Tuesday night... in conflict with the tickets that I bought with
pi3832's help for Avenue Q! Oh, no! I worked late that night, expecting to stay until 9pm and missing the show entirely. :(
3) *happy*
I didn't have to stay because the conference, as it turns out, didn't even need the presentation equipment that I was there to setup and tear down for them. Freedom! And it's only 7pm!
4) *more happy*
I drove home to pick up my ticket and then to downtown Minneapolis theater for the show at Orpheum. I missed about 20 minutes of the show, I think. I missed the classic "The Internet Is For Porn" song, but I got to witness hot muppet sex. What a hoot! The show was great fun! I turned off the pager noise during the show, but luckily I didn't receive any emails while I was there.
5) *stressed*
I went home but wasn't able to sleep. I needed to drive to Buffalo the next day to work on a wireless networking problem. The show still had me revved up and thinking about stuff. I think I slept from about 2:30am to 6:30am.
6) *more stressed*
I forgot to turn the pager sounds back on after the show. Important stuff happened overnight, like losing the whole Buffalo site from our network, and something happened to our email service too.
7) *even more stressed*
I drove from home to Golden Valley shelter then to Buffalo shelter.
I fixed the Buffalo site outage (bad surge protector/battery).
I fixed the Buffalo email problem (bad DNS).
I didn't solve Buffalo the wireless problem in the remote building. *sigh*
I reported the animal management system problem, and their techs fixed it.
I investigated the automated money processing problem and identified the cause (service provider got a server blacklisted as spammer).
Somehow, I even remembered to swap out the backup tape in the server room (not usually my duty).
I survived a day at work on my own, even as every major system experienced failures. I need an aspirin. Or a beer.
8) *still stressed*
I went to Bear Coffee this evening with the pager that was thankfully quiet.
I left early to drive to Coon Rapids shelter to drop off equipment that was needed there before they closed at 8pm.
9) *still stressed*
I did my USA taxes a few weeks ago, but I still need to do my Minnesota state taxes tonight.
*sigh*
I saw 2 ducks hiding in the back yard grass of our neighbor's yard tonight.
*twiddle while looking for an excuse to procrastinate longer*

Date: 2010-Apr-15, Thursday 02:35 am (UTC)There are other benefits (meeting the critters, and learning all kinds of new stuff) that helps to balance the cost/benefit ratio. :)
I've worked days alone before, but really... every major system (networking, email, animal management system, money donation processing) had to have a problem today? *laugh* I'm ready for the weekend already!
