2008-Feb-27, Wednesday 06:32 pmBad English translations of foreign computer games are still being sold. This gem from a scenario in my HOMM5 TotE campaign display:
"The extent of Giovanni's network was in adequation with his personal ambition."
Huh?
First half-day at work went okay. Lots of introductions and wandering around the labyrinthine facility. A LOT of people work there. Vets, volunteers, law enforcement, trainers. The tech desk is much more hands-on than Wilson's Leather was for me, but I was kind of hoping for that. I like the chance to learn how things work at the deeper level.
I was handed a blank cd and told to use their disk image tool (I had to install it on my pc) to burn the installable XP for a donated laptop that they needed to reformat. I managed to do that and install Office (and log the issue in their web system) before I ran out of time for the day. Four hours is a very short shift. But that's more do-it-on-your-own tech work than I've ever had for any first-day job before. I like it.
Too bad I've had a mild flu or something since the weekend and I'm now running a 100.6F fever. With body aches and headache. Ugh. I want to skip my 1-5pm shift tomorrow. And an unrelated 6pm event that I'm needed for on the other side of Minneapolis. *sigh*
6:40pm. Time for bed.
