Cosden explosion
2008-Feb-18, Monday 03:44 pmSometime in the early-to-mid 1970's, there was an explosion out at the Cosden refinery in Big Spring, Texas (where my uncle is sheriff today). My uncle and I climbed onto the roof of my grandmother's house and watched the refinery, listening to police band radio reports, waiting to see and hear the next explosion. I half-remember that a lot of the fatalities/injuries came from the chemical lab there.
Apparently, the refinery is now called Alon, and it no longer has a chemical lab. But there was another explosion there this morning. It's making news here and there.
Relevancy? Well, price of gasoline might go up, depending on how soon they get production working again.
(edit: Video reports available here where you can see the smoke and also admire? the local dialect. I suppose I could still talk that way if I tried. Mostly, though, it only surfaces if I sing or am very tired or very drunk.)
