a good day
2009-Mar-21, Saturday 03:21 pmI'd dumped the last of T'Reese's dry kibble into her bowl on Thursday so that I could recycle the plastic container on Friday morning. She still had some food left from that stockpile, so she didn't wake me up at 5am today like usual. I got to sleep until my natural cycle woke me up. That's good.
Last Sunday, I tried to dig in the dirt and hit ice immediately so I gave up. We had exceptionally warm days on Monday and Tuesday so I tried again this weekend. Better luck this time. I could dig a few inches in the full sun areas but only an inch or two in the semi-shade areas before I hit ice again. I got all the rosebushes and raspberries cut back in anticipation of digging them out to make different use of their space this year. I didn't get seeds planted since I couldn't dig and transplate everything that I wanted to save. But I made some obvious progress. That was satisfying.
About halfway through, I took off my warm vest and rolled up my flannel sleeves to get a little sunshine. I went inside and dug out another blueberry lager to drink while I was out digging. Yum. That was good too. I dunno why this stuff gets bad reviews, but its bad reputation amuses me. I like the stuff as an occasional drink. Blueberry beer in warm sunlight on a semi-cold day... that was good.
My hands are covered in dirt, and I've got a few scratches from the rosebush and raspberry stems. I haven't eaten yet today, but I'm starting to get hungry now. It's too late to start some pizza dough rising. I think I might go buy some Papa Murphy's take-and-bake pizza instead. Yum.
On days like this, it's a 50/50 shot. It'd be good to be away from everyone and have some dirt to call my own for digging to plant food. It'd also be good to be planting food in the backyard so he can cook meals with it later in the season, then we spend time indoors where he encourages me to write the computer programs that I keep thinking about but never doing. Walking on the park trails together while the plants bloom would also be fun. Or alone. It's all good today, for some reason.
Blueberry beer, sunshine, and dirt. Good stuff. Oh, and pizza. Yes, I've decided that I'll go get pizza. Maybe civilization isn't all bad.
