recent hikes
2020-Aug-19, Wednesday 04:24 pmI've taken a few long hikes this year within the metro. I have photos from the two recent ones near downtown Minneapolis. Both walks were about 6km/4mi long, which is at the limit of what I can do before my body complains. On both hikes, I went with "one of the Pauls" (from a local group where there are lots of men named Paul) who took this selfie that captured both of us on a bridge over the Mississippi River. We both had masks, but we usually kept them down during the hike as we kept our distance, hence the apparent neck clothing on both of us.

My no-shaving rule during COVID-19 has led to a nice beard filling in. I get flashes of either Santa Claus or Willie Nelson sometimes. Ouch, but I do need to lose some of this extra weight, though. Anyway... here's the rest of that hike yesterday evening, where we started from East River Flats Park on the University of Minnesota campus. We ate some fresh wild grapes along the trail that were very tasty!

The other hike in July was the "traditional circle" around the Mississippi river in downtown Minneapolis itself. We started from B.F. Nelson Park at the north end, and the historic Stone Arch Bridge (complete with horse drawn carriage) marked the southern end of the route. The video I recorded of St. Anthony Falls from the Water Power Park in the middle of the river is nice.

I have done a LOT less exercising than usual this year. Staying indoors even more than before, which was too much already. They keep saying to get out and breathe fresh air during covid restrictions. Walking around the neighborhood is dangerous here, however, so it doesn't get done. An occasional long hike is probably a good thing.
