movie: The Batman (2022)

I'm so glad that new movies are showing online these days.  I joined HboMax 1.5 years ago, just to watch the new Wonder Woman movie.  Last night, I watched the new Batman movie.  I think... this might be my favorite take on Batman that I've seen in movies.  It's unusual in that it avoids all of the typical Hollywood exaggeration for this comic book character.

Aside:  For those also watching "Our Flag Means Death", one of the actors from it plays a role here too.

• Believable (not super-ninja training) Bruce Wayne.
• Believable (not superhuman) fights.
• Believable (slow) Catwoman entanglement.
• Believable version of Alfred.
• Believable (not camp or sadistic (not exactly)) version of Riddler.
• Believable tech that's low-key compared to previous movies.

I didn't have to suspend disbelief to watch a SuperHero [tm] movie.  It felt like it could be our world, not a make-believe world.  I very much like this version.  I hope it continues as a series.

 

Is it wrong that I was rooting for the Riddler for much of the film?  *sigh*  I've been very clear that corruption is my #3 priority for problems affecting our world.  So much corruption in the real world, so little justice.  Vengeance?  It creates more problems.  Guns?  Be like Batman.  The real solutions to our problems won't be easy.
