some updates

Yesterday's feel good moment didn't last long. An intense storm front moved through the heart of the Twin Cities metro area, leaving about 85K homes (mine included) without power. My power came back on 12 hours later, about 8am today. The best video I've seen of what it was like is this short clip on Twitter from the east metro.  Here, it was high winds, heavy rain (I could see only 3 houses away), brief hail, and persistent thunder roll.  Not waves of thunder, but a constant roar everywhere.  It took about 4 hours for the cat to finally calm down from that experience.

The winds knocked a large limb onto the street at a neighbor house. They're the ones I've mentioned before, who moved to Hawaii to avoid the hassles here. I messaged them on NextDoor about it. I pulled the limb out of the street, so it's only blocking the sidewalk now, but it's much too heavy for me to lift over their small fence into the main yard. I did what I could.

Speaking of Twitter, if Elon Musk succeeds in buying the platform, then I will drop it "cold turkey". He says that American workers are lazy compared to China. But what is this gold standard of productivity that he means? At the Tesla factory in Shanghai, employees are working 12-hour shifts, sleeping on the site floor, and get only 1 day off per week. Ok, maybe extreme isolation is part of how China keeps production going during pandemic (feed that economy, slaves!), so maybe it's not Elon Musk's fault? Wait, here in the USA there is blatant racism from management, plus bonus groping, slurs, and other harassment. And he mocks whistleblowers. If the plutocrat takes over Twitter, I'll drop it immediately to avoid the crowd attracted to that sort of thing.

Back to pandemic news, the HIV similarity with SARS-CoV-2 keeps growing.  Not all of it is on the new sars2.org site yet.  I'll only put stuff there that has solid research to support the claim.  I continue to panic about what's ahead, though.  I splurged and bought that eyeglass-friendly plague mask.  Now to see about buying a durable sign to hold up.

Yesterday, while walking away from the clinic where I saw the dentist, a guy in a truck yelled at me, "Hey, need another mask?!" as I walked across the street at the stop light still in my double mask.

Still no new job yet.  I really should just contact a headhunter this week, so they do the 100% remote job search for me.
