creative industry
2008-May-07, Wednesday 09:42 amI'm enjoying watching the new creative industry being born. Movies, for instance, will someday bypass Hollywood altogether. That day can't come soon enough, I think. With tools getting cheaper and cheaper to work with, I hope to see more "garage band" style movie development.
For those of you who read slashdot, you probably already know, but the trailer for a new internet-only movie is now available at http://ironsky.net/. Nazis in space! *laugh* But it actually looks interesting. They're raising money for it by selling "war bonds" (to aid the effort to fight off the Nazis). If I had the money to spare, I'd buy one myself. Anything to help bring about the end of Hollywood's grip on the creative industry.
Still feeling unmotivated here, unfortunately. I really want to work on creating a script for my sci-fi idea, a series about life on colony ships just 200 years from now or so. I can see it as a series in just about any format: movie, live-action episodes, or even an animated show. Any animators out there looking for an excuse for a project? (Light a proverbial fire under my rear to get me started on that script.)
*unproductive twiddle*

Date: 2008-May-07, Wednesday 03:27 pm (UTC)It's an experience in itself...
There's an old movie house--The Orpheum--in the nearby village
and it's about as close to glory as one can find.
They play first runs and a plethora of beautiful indies.
Internet movies and cable and DVDs are just one more
growing niche for a shut-in society becoming more and more
closed-off and anti-social.

Date: 2008-May-07, Wednesday 04:46 pm (UTC)The thing, though, is that a movie-and-popcorn night, just 2 hours, costs as much as a month's subscription to an online game like Everquest 2. It's a lot cheaper to move electrons around than it is to move bigger stuff.
I would like to see more movie nights (including internet movies) hosted at people's homes than in theaters, even good theaters like the Heights.
