snail mail and scams

I've been in this house over 3 years, yet I still receive mail for a whole lot of names. I'm pretty sure that this address has an "interesting" history. I've never opened the mail, just thrown it away, but the return names are still revealing. Some of the mail is from credit card banks, lawsuit settlements, child support payments, driver license renewals, pharmacy billing, and lots of other things where someone might need a convenient temporary address to receive mail. My house seems to have been that address.

Again, in just 3 years, I continue to receive letters for:

When I first got here, I spent a few weeks dutifully marking "Not at this address. Return to sender." and turning them in at the nearby post office. Then, curiously, my postman left a notice at my mailbox to stop doing that and just return them directly to him.

Um, no. That request convinced me that the postman at that time was in on the scam, and he would funnel packages and letters to people or just keep stuff for himself.

So... all of this stuff just goes in the trash now. It's disappointing, but that's life here.

That's indeed weirdly many names. More commonly in the US I'd instead suffer from inheriting the telephone number of debtors. Collectors never seemed to believe my suggestion that they should stop calling because whoever it was no longer lives there.

And a new one arrived last week for the first time:
Diane Geiger

It came from Western Union / NetSpend, so probably yet another payment problem that somebody decided to send to my address.
