Thanksgiving 2019
2019-Nov-28, Thursday 08:50 amI was going to post the recipe for my indulgent main meal today, but I discovered that I already did back in 2013. It's a really good recipe for spinach dip. I've used it a lot in the years since then. I do make concessions now, though. I don't eat leafy greens as often as I "should", because I know that my body produces blood clots, so anything rich in vitamin K is potentially a bad thing for me. So when I do indulge, I just make sure that I'm eating my low-dose aspirin as an effective blood thinner to counteract it.
That spinach dip is very yummy and makes a good meal by itself, but it's not worth having a stroke or heart attack.
Thanksgiving in the USA has become sort of a celebration for capitalism, with "Black Friday" (the day after Thanksgiving on Thursday) being the biggest sales day of the year. Some people are trying to keep those dollars in my local neighborhood. They're having some sort of special food and sales at a cluster of small businesses near me. I'm not much of a capitalist, but I might go visit just to show some interest.

In less happy news for the holiday, there was a big fire in an apartment building a few blocks from where I work. Several old people died trying to escape in the stairwells. It'll be a sad holiday for some families.

I'm not posting pictures of the new snow yet. We got over 8 inches in Minneapolis, but there's still more to come. I'm glad I'm not trying to travel anywhere at all.
