It's been a rough 24 hours. I took a small break from it this evening to see 2 house gardens at a neighboring small city, Golden Valley.

It started a little before midnight last night. The continuous shouting at the crack house next door. A little after midnight I finally put on some clothes to go out my front door and stand on the steps to record this 4-minute audio of the disturbance. (There's a male voice calling out "Hey!" which is a neighbor doing the same as me, coming out to investigate.)

Then it continued off-and-on until after 2am.

Then around 11am, there was the report of shots fired about a dozen blocks south of me near a local high school. It's the kids who had the guns, apparently.

Then around 2pm, there was the report of a 17-year-old girl who died after being shot last night about 2 blocks southeast of me.

Then around 3pm, there was another report of a man shot about 10 blocks southeast.

Then after 6pm, as I was leaving the house for the garden tour, a helicopter was roaming in the air (Again.)

The first garden in the tour involved a lot more obvious gardening. I was quite impressed by their effort at getting things to NOT grow in much of the space. I haven't learned any part of that skill yet, unfortunately.  I let things grow wild intentionally, then I regret it later... usually.  At least until something interesting and wonderful grows among the newcomers.

The second house was mostly native prairie taking over the back half of the lot, which is great, but it's really easy to dedicate space to that when you have an actual large stream flowing across your property as a dividing line, even cutting a sharp curve around a huge old weeping willow.  It must be nice to afford locations like that.

So, I drove back home, thinking how nice it must be to have the kind of money that buys large plots of land in quiet neighborhoods.

Then around 8pm, back home looking at photos I took, a helicopter was still making noise in the air.  No idea if it's police on a manhunt or if it's news stations watching new protests.  Police somewhere are always killing somebody for no good reason.

You know, just another day.
