some fruit is ready
2021-Jun-29, Tuesday 12:31 pmThe heavy watering paid off this year. My cherry tree is producing its first fruit. I've waited years for this day. I count only 5 fruits remaining on the tree, but one of them finally looks ripe to eat. The raspberry has been growing slowly for years, and this season's fruit is beginning to ripen. I tasted both today, and they were delicious.

I realized after posting about the heat wave and drought that I didn't show any photos of its effects. Here is the kiwi vine that burned, but it's obviously recovering now. That poor newly planted juneberry, though. It's difficult even to notice it in the foreground (that's a blooming rose in the background), because it's nothing but sticks and about 6 leaves.

This photo doesn't really capture the feel of the shade garden seeds that I sowed a few months ago. There were poppies in the mix with the other things, and I've now got a variety of pastel colors when I look over my back porch. You can see the grape vines in the background near my white house.

We had some much needed rain during the last 48 hours. Not the kind that leaves deep puddles anywhere, but it was more than a few drops. I'm sure that everything appreciates the slight reprieve from the continuing drought and the heat wave that is killing fish.
