in the garden

The only reason I saw the City Of Minneapolis vehicle stop behind my house is because I was already outside getting ready to do some more gardening. It stopped, and the driver took notes. Anyone taking bets on whether I get a Nastygram™ from the city this month? Ugh.
I spent a few hours weeding my back yard path and moving bricks from one side to stack them on the other. Tomorrow, I hope to finally level the ground there and finish the path from back door to alley. I'll take pictures when I'm done, and we can compare with earlier this spring.
The gooseberry is almost ready to pick. I could only get one of the darkest berries to pluck off easily, so they need another week or more to mature. I think this flower is heliopsis, but I don't remember what variety. It's very pretty with its dark green leaves and tinted edges. I hope it takes over that section of the back yard.

As I came back inside and drank some cold water to quench my thirst, I heard the fire and ambulance sirens stop on my block. I took this quick photo from the front yard before heading back inside for a nice shower.

They stopped either at the house with a single old man in it, or it's the house where that stray cat ended up a few months ago. I suppose there are some useful government services that don't annoy me with Nastygrams.
