cuz rambling is as good as it gets tonight
2008-Aug-27, Wednesday 11:11 pmI splurged and bought some of the cheapest books off of my Amazon wishlist. The stuff that was less than $10 prior to shipping charges (sometimes even with shipping charges). Packages have been arriving all week. I managed to skim a few pages of different books. Been a little scatterbrained this week from working more hours than usual (because my coworker is on vacation this week so I'm helping by being around more hours) and thinking about the conference this weekend.
I'm now on my 3rd book reading about how to write successful screenplays. The first two I've repeatedly had to put away in disgust after being reminded (again and again and again) that the entire Hollywood/Lalaland machinery just needs to die a very quick death so that creativity can have a chance. This 3rd book looks promising though.
Unrelated, I've been considering trying to explain something about my psychology (the "self-directed creation" that I refer to sometimes) and how best to even approach the subject. Since it's definitely non-standard, it'd probably be disturbing to readers. Closest example I've found is in Nobody, Nowhere and its sequel Somebody, Somewhere.) Another of the books in my recent purchase may help me find the terminology. "The Third Chimpanzee: The Evolution and Future of the Human Animal". I tried reading more of it tonight but the thoughts wouldn't gel. What I did gather from it though, is that there is research on the subject of evolutionary psychology. That's encouraging. Maybe my explanation can use terminology with meaning to someone other than just me.
I probably won't be writing again until after the conference.

"There are those who believe that the art form of Hollywood is movies. I believe this - except on my cynical days, when I believe that the art form of Hollywood is contracts, and that occasionally movies get made as an unavoidable part of the contract-making process."Yeah, we're on the same wavelength. I think I'll be able to read this book in its entirety.
