a few updates

It's a good thing I made a paranoid check online this morning, because I wrote down the wrong day for my shift at work this week. It was today for 2 hours, not tomorrow. It was a solidly busy 2 hours, too. What holiday? It's annoying being an "essential worker", because there's not really any such thing as holiday from the workload. At least I'm done for the week, though.
The temperature in Minneapolis set a record high yesterday (12C/54F). Instead of ice fishing, people are boat fishing in the city this year. At least we've finally had some good steady (but not heavy) rain this week. The ground really needed it, since we've had so little precipitation for months.
I don't know if it's in the mainstream news, but my medical provider sent a message to me yesterday warning that clinics and Emergency Departments are overloaded right now. They advised: "If you are not very sick, please stay home and treat your symptoms with rest, fluids, and over-the-counter remedies." Seriously, don't bother us unless you're dying. Fun times. Most people act like COVID is over, rather than acting like we are now in year 5 of the ongoing pandemic.
Somebody assured us that the only people dying of COVID were the weak and vulnerable. With them gone now, why are there so many people (free, gift link) still dying early? Thankfully, that question has finally become mainstream. I'm not as angry as this doctor who treats people with mental repercussions from their infections, but we all should know better by now. Also fun news, if you're in Canada, then some of your rapid tests for COVID-19 may have been giving false negatives. Yay, capitalism.
I have a few more days of holiday. I plan to play computer games.
