My old "chair" is more than a decade old.  It's served me very well, but it's time to get another.  Does anyone have suggestions for devices (chair or otherwise) that encourage good posture even during long bouts at the computer screen?  It also needs to be cheap, which cuts into the options pretty quickly.

Has anyone used a giant rubber ball as a fulltime seat?  I've tried them just for a few minutes at a time but they didn't quite seem comfortable to me.

Are there chairs that support split keyboards, one at each armrest?  That seems like it'd be ideal, but that's probably expensive because it's more of a medical device to help avoid aggravating carpel tunnel syndrome.

My current chair was one of those kneeling shin rest sort of contraptions.  I've enjoyed it a lot, but I think I'd like to try something different for the next decade.  :)

Any suggestions?

Oh well, I was about to suggest a kneeling shin chair but then I got to the end of your posting! lol I use one of those at the office and it has been really helpful/good at preventing lower back pain and bad posture in general for me. However, I have an atypical seat at home to use my desktop: a reclinable single sofa! I acquired it at a flea market for a ery good price and it has been useful when I have to type long documents and take some good short rests all along the typing! :o)
Hugs my friend, Luis. ;o)

Check out the PPL shop (http://www.pplshop.org/). They have a lot of office chairs (and other furniture) cheap.

I used to just stand at my computer desk (which was made out of black wire racks with an Ikea desktop piece. And I have a stool I'd sit on if I felt like taking a load off my feet for awhile.

Now, I'm just using my dining table and kitchen chair for my computer desk set up in my office. Before I got a roommate I was using my kitchen table as a TV stand and I parked the chairs with the dining table set. But the roomie has a bigger dining table and an entertainment center. So the TV is on the that and both my kitchen and dining tables are set up in my office with a kitchen chair in front of each table (I only had two). Meanwhile the wire rack desk set up got moved into the laundry room to be used as a work bench for my crafts. The dining chairs are are at the larger table, and his dining room chairs are set up around his kitchen table down in the laundry room. :o)

I have traditionally had problems with standard office chairs (chair on a stick) they wobble too much and aggravate my low back problems. It may be hard, but that just reminds me I need to get up from the computer a little more often. :o)
