antihistamines

I keep thinking that my allergies must relent one of these days... but the day never comes.  It's been more than 2 weeks already.  My sinuses are still a complex snot factory.  *sniffle*snort*  I dislike taking antihistamines because they make me wonky.  But it's better than coming down with a sinus infection after some random bacterium floating in the air finds its way into my poorly ventilated sinuses and decides to call it home.

That's why I eventually got sinus surgery when I lived in Texas (and had health insurance).  I was going to the doctor once a month, every month, because I had yet another high-temperature sinus infection.  After a few years, the doctor finally said that it was bad medicine to be giving me antibiotics so frequently so he authorized the surgery instead.  It worked.  I'm much more likely to blow out the crud that builds up from my sinuses before an infection develops.

I wish there was a surgery that would eliminate allergies, instead.  I think maybe dogs have it better with their itchy paws.

Oh, and for anyone interested, the BBC has a good website for tracking the developments with the swine flu.

Sorry to learn you are having allergies problems Terry, I had those once when I just arrived to live in Baja California Sur, -new pollens and other stuff I think-. However, after being miserable about it for some years I took an homeopathic treatment of two months and I worked. Allergies didn't go but they became much more slight and manageable. Year later I took the vaccine against pneumococcus and it helped me further on this. I presently have almost no problems with allergies. I hope my experience could be of some help to you.

Well, I am secluded at my home. Government has dictated an activities suspension until May 06, so I am not delivering any classes along the week.

Loving hug, Luis.

Try Claritin (or the generic equivalent, I think I might have some Wal-itin in the bathroom cupboard). When I've used it I haven't had lightheadedness or any other problems.

Also, another good site for tracking Swine Flu is Effect Measure (http://scienceblogs.com/effectmeasure/). It's a science blog about public health information and has been following this for a while.

I take a generic 24 hr. Claritin every morning with my vitamins. I use it because I can't afford to be sneezing as that can throw my back out. If I can't avoid sneezing I try to find something to brace my back against. :oP

I don't know what antihistamine you're using - but if you have Costco available, their house-brand versions of Claritin and Zyrtec (my favorite) are very cheap. I just bought a bottle of 365 "Aller-Tec" tablets for about $16, less than 5¢/tablet. If you don't have Costco, I know many stores have generics though they're not as stupendously cheap.

Everything else available OTC is sedating to a greater or lesser extent - diphenhydramine, [chlor|brom]pheniramine, triprolidine, clemastine, etc.
