go see District 9

I emailed someone a few weeks ago to explain why I thought that the recent movie "Moon" was a good science fiction film. I think that the technology in sci-fi should be a mirror that shows us ourselves by amplifying and exaggerating the power of our tools. It isn't the tools that make the story. They are the props on the stage in which we ourselves act. We are the story. I explained to him that the movie shows us "both the good and the bad that humanity can do for (to) itself."
"District 9" is the same.
It makes us face the consequences of our own actions. It shows us a reasonable outcome if we continue to pursue our current values and interests. It explores racism. It explores family values (as I use the term, not some people). It explores politics (on the local scale, power for oneself). It has enough gore and gunfighting to keep most fans entertained (and some others grossed out, more than one scene had me averting my eyes for a moment).
It's a good movie. Go see it. :)
