My favorite characters in the series are the "nice guys". I count Sam (the owner of smalltown bar Merlott's), Hoyt (the boyfriend to young vampire Jessica), and Godrick (the ancient vampire) as "nice" male characters. None of them are central to the storyline, I admit, and Godrick was killed off almost as soon as he appeared in season 2.
Of them all, Sam is the one that I like best. "Like", ahem. Sure, there are other guys with more style (Lafayette), ruggedness (Bill), power (Eric), and muscles (Jason). Sam, though, is the character/actor combination that I like best. Sam has a protective streak, a stability of personality, and an uncomplicated charm that I find appealing. Plus, shapechangers are cool!
So imagine my surprise when season 3 opens with a homoerotic dream by Sam! (Original image provided elsewhere, but last panel altered by me.)
Would that Sam dreamed of me! *feigned vapors*
Sure, I know it's probably only one of the temporary side effects of the vampire blood from Bill, but I'm so very much hoping for a more interesting story development than that trite excuse!
I look forward to the rest of the season. I want an explanation for that little surprise.
