ouch, my pocketbook

My eyesight has changed a lot in the last year.  I went today to get an eye exam, a new prescription, and new lenses.  I dropped almost $1000 at Lenscrafters today to get everything done.  Granted, about 1/3 of that was more along the lines of "want" rather than "need", but it will come in handly later.

My far-vision is awful.  With my right eye, I can't even see that giant letter "E" on those vision charts.  My left eye is almost that bad now too.  My near-vision has always been excellent for 40 years, but during the last year it has deteriorated quickly.  The optometrist told me that it required a "significant change" from my previous prescription (which was none).  I'm now officially bifocal.  *sigh*

The extra money I've been earning while working fulltime these last several weeks has certainly come in handy.  This cost is not nearly the setback it would have seemed a few months ago.  That's why I splurged and bought a pair of prescription sunglasses too.  It'll be a lot safer to wear them while I'm riding my trail bicycle.  I will no longer risk scratches to my "work" eyeglasses while being rambunctious outdoors.  That'll be a good precaution, I think.

Yes it is, and it is always good to have a back up as well even if it means looking "through a glass, darkly" And as long as you can afford it getting a few "that could come in handy later's" is a good thing as well.

Welcome to my club, with the addition that I had this retinal detachment back in 1978. My vision has remained stably awful for many months right now which is reasonably good, given the circumstances... How good that you feel rather comfortable now with your new pair of eyeglasses. I think that that money was very well-spent, given the importance of our vision as a primary sense. Congrats dear Terry, (((HUGS))) Luis.

Close-up vision starts to go about age 40. That's when I got reading glasses. I finally got where I just leave them on. I have progressives now that have glare reduction coating, and they go dark in the sun. The tinting thing has been absolutely worth every penny.

I had really good close in vision but really bad distance vision, (anything more than 3 ft away) untill last year this time. Then I had cataract surgery. That reversed everything. I now have really good distance vision but in order to see anything close up I have to use reading glasses.

Wow! Mellow Tigger (my bad for having read this as "Mellow Tiger" until today) but I have a bit of vision impairment myself. A thousand dollars even in our devalued currency is still a lot - well, maybe not for some - but to me and most of the people I associate with.

(Oops, I accidently hit Enter before finishing writing.) I am glad however that you have access to and can afford health care. I got my first bifocals around ten years ago, and had started reading papers over the top of my glasses (mine correct for short-sightedness) so as to be able to read. If you have graduated lenses, those took me a few days (max 2 weeks) to get used to, with each day getting gradually better. Speaking of days, have yourself a good one!

a friend of mine bought new glasses online and had a very good experience, good glasses for much cheaper than what the local place cost
