progress on many fronts

Accomplishment is good.  Especially (for me) when it involves navigating bureaucracy.

moving my money - checking:  I activated my debit card for my checking account today.  After my paycheck direct deposit starts working, then I can cancel the old account.

green checks:  I ordered checks online for my new checking account.  I selected a printer that uses recycled paper and vegetable ink.

moving my money - credit:  I applied for a credit card through the new credit union, too.  That was confusing because the form was designed for fixed loan applications, not permanent Visa cards.  They called me within an hour to say they approved it, but only for $2,000.  Ouch.  That's not enough to cover a big vehicle repair.  Oh, well.  At least it's more appropriate than the insane $12,000 limit on my Wells Fargo VISA.  Once I have the plastic card in hand, then I can cancel the old card.

work:  I put in some time late last night installing new antivirus software at 2 locations.  Got about 5 hours of sleep before T'Reese horked up hairballs and woke me up.  Bright and early at 8am, I arrived in Saint Paul to do final changes and inventory on each pc.  Drove to Woodbury to finish up the same process there.  Now I have the afternoon off.  Because of all the extra hours I put in over the weekend (Give Camp), I have tomorrow off of work too.  Nice!

neurologist:  It took many phone calls, but I now have an appointment for February 02 Tuesday 8:00am.  I canceled the previous appointment.  The insurance program didn't care about the change, since specialists require no referrals within their system.

The referring clinic wasn't thrilled about my going outside the Fairview hospital system, but they're supposed to be sending my records to the new specialist.  Hopefully I'm seeing someone skilled at their specialty.  I suppose it's hit-or-miss when you're relying just on a booklet with phone numbers.  It is possible to look up doctor stats online, but they aren't very comprehensive.

vehicle insurance:  I scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning to discuss my coverage.  I want to reduce as much as possible but still maintain the part that covers me if I get into an accident with an uninsured driver.  I think there are more uninsured drivers on the roads recently than in years past (because of the bad economy).

still to do:
  1. I need to pay my Minnesota Care monthly fee.  There's a way to do it online, but my membership card doesn't have all of the relevant data fields for doing that.  *sigh*
  2. I need to move my nolar.org domain to the original registrar, since it will simplify billing (which changes because I'm moving from my old bank).
Maybe I'll save these tasks for tomorrow after the insurance meeting.
