the fog is lifting
2020-Jun-03, Wednesday 11:00 pmI am anti-fascist. I think I need to state it plainly now, since I didn't say it directly last year during my explanation of antifa. Someone on Twitter wrote a much more concise summary than I could muster:
The strangely dressed "Church of God" (misidentified as Amish or Mennonite because of their appearance) joined the cause, apparently, when they issued their statement and appeared at the Minneapolis protests to sing. Even farmers are speaking out.
You-know-who has other ideas, of course, trying to influence the perception of anti-fascism as a concept, since there's no such group. Well, no group other than American citizens themselves when they protest against government atrocity. General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, sent a very interesting memorandum today to the Chiefs and Commandants of the various military forces of the USA. In it, he reminds everyone that they are sworn to "support and defend the Constitution". Can anyone guess why he needed to remind everyone down the whole chain of military command in all forces that they are not a personal army for... somebody who remains unmentioned in that memo?
Finally, leaders are recognizing the true gravity of our current situation. Happily, that includes my governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, who said today:
Keep an eye on the videos coming out. You might see cops trying desperately to plant weapons to lie later and thereby justify their current or intended future action. You'll also notice mystery forces appearing at protests these days with strange identification. Some of these men even include a "Punisher" logo on their clothes, imagining themselves as heroic, even though the comic book anti-hero (a former cop who abandoned the law to mete out punishment alone) warns against cops who idolize his violent character.
Another tweet brings today's ideas into sharp focus with a single image, with Captain America fighting the Punisher.

Think of that image when you see officers with Punisher logos. Be like Captain America. Also...

Be like Wonder Woman.
Value truth. Confront injustice. Be anti-fascist.
I am antifa.
"Antifascism isn't a group. It's a moral responsibility."

“This is probably our last shot as a state and a nation to fix this systemic issue... Systemic racism and the lack of accountability up and down our society ... led to a daytime murder of a black man on a street in Minneapolis.”

"The officers tell Frank he's making an enemy of the police who support them, but he warns them if they don't stop their antihero-worshiping, "I'll come for you next.""
